Creating the Pause

feather pic 2Our minds run rapid with ideas, thoughts, opinions, perspective, etc.  We may be reliving a past experience, planning for the future, and doing a routine task in the present.  Are we aware of how we are feeling?  Are we aware of our current attitude?  Do we really know what we are doing?

Many times we are on autopilot which can be affected by our processing of that past moment and our concern about the future one.   Even with the current moment being routine we can be experiencing significant chaos.  Our engagement in the moment will reflect that chaos.

What to do?  What to do?

Is there that spiraling out of control, or that feeling of free falling with nothing to grab on to?

Stop! Breathe! Put on the brakes!  Create a pause in the moment.  Simply consciously take a breath.  As it is very likely we have been holding our breath or getting just enough in to say we are breathing.

By taking a breath we clear our minds and have physiologically greater access to oxygen allowing greater function.  By creating a pause we can increase our awareness of options and make a conscious choice.  Within the pause we can actually sense the experience of the moment.

In that moment we have greater understanding.  We can see the value in the engagement.  We are now actively living.  The possibilities for our life are before us.  This may be just to laugh or cry.  This may be to take the next step.  We are mindful of who we are and what we are doing.
