Life as "gifted" or multi-talented or high ability or.... take your choice on descriptive words... is a challenge and does have its rewards. Knowing yourself, your passions, your talents and then clarifying what you want to do with who you are is what can make living life an experience you choose. Labels are not an answer they are a tool. Understand, overcome, develop, express and connect - to live a life you choose.

For several years I thought I was sick, devour by some kind of illness because I feel things so intensely. I used to walk the hallway with feelings of...I dont know, I cant describe it. Till now, I'm prone to nightmares.
After that, I suffer from a neurotic state. I felt safe in this neurosis, I feel a sense of control. And for some reason people are more accepting of me. But now after I got better, I come back to my usual self. And people once again frown upon, misjudge, ridicule, very distorted sights and feelings that never could be determine in shallow words.
I never wish for this, and feel bad every aching second for being 'this'. I cant acknowledge the word 'gifted' because it emphasizes arrogance. I dont like to make other people feel bad about them selves.
Never I found another person with the same situation as I am. I was very laid back at school, most of the time didn't shower or even bother to make homeworks. I slept through all of my classes, till my teachers are tired to warn me.
Oddly, I could surpass all of that with good grades. Honestly, I seem like a greedy biatch. But at the same time I'm proud, sad.
Other people that have a higher grade point avarage did not dwell in any of the feelings I've been through. I feel like a complete alien, an odd creature like Grendel in Baewoulf.
Untill this very moment, I'm still very different. No matter how much knowledge I gain, no matter how elegant I became. I am still an oddball, I cant change any of that.
People called me indifferent, even ignorant.
Whatever, seeing my post, I'm skeptical of giftedness. I wish I could know what exactly other people are thinking about me.
I've wished to have hidden cameras, so I could rewind and analyze my usual behaviors with other people....

To know helps alleviate the discomfort of the unknown. Any testing for intelligence would probably support you in what you already know. The advantage of Mensa testing is low cost, minimal time AND you get to meet other people like you. Do take the next step on your journey.

Happy is good. A smile relieves the stress and changes your perspective. Changing pace and the direction of your view provides for a whole different view.

Angie:
Yes, having help, guidance, accountability is significant for increasing the attainment and success of achieving goals. As Barbara Sher says, Isolation is the dream killer.
Resistance, "procrastination" naturally enters the picture - and being accountable to at least a buddy facilitates taking that next step.

I was just talking to classroom of new first-year college students about this exact thing! I think you point as to the importance of soliciting the help and/or guidance of others to achieve one's goals.

Thanks!

Patty, Thanks for stopping by. I am reading Carol Dweck's Mindset (along with about 1/2 dozen others) and see how our perspectives run in the same vein. I put Heidi Grant Halvorson's book on my wish list. Considering dynamic giftedness is important because of all the contributing factors that enter into the expression. The connections are ever present, awareness and directed motion implement the big picture contribution.
